The Fireplace Bar rescue

Episode Recap

The Fireplace Bar was a St. Louis, Missouri bar that was featured on Season 9 of Bar Rescue.

Though the The Fireplace Bar Rescue episode aired in May 2025, the actual filming and visit from Bar Rescue took place before that in 2024.

It was Season 9 Episode 34 and the episode name was “Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fireplace”.

In this episode, Bar Rescue is back in the St. Louis MO area to rescue another bar.

Unfortunately, Jon Taffer will not be leading the rescue.

However, it will be handled by Spike Mendelsohn, who I think has been one of the better guest hosts from this season.

Vic Vegas is also in town, so I imagine the new menu will include some elevated hot dogs.

Spike is in St. Louis to rescue The Fireplace Bar, a long-time St. Louis establishment that’s been around since 1964.

This makes it one of the older bars to appear on the show (though not the oldest).

When Spike sends his spies into the bar, they don’t have a great experience.

Lucy is serving them but she seems to not give a sh*t and has to leave to smoke a cig.

She’s also out there getting drunk at the same time.

To make matters even worse, she doesn’t wash her hands after having smoked the cig and drank outside.

When the spies get the cocktails, they aren’t very good.

They’re unbalanced and have very little alcohol.

As a result, they decide to order a different drink, which causes even more issues with Lucy.

As always, I’m writing this the day before the episode airs on TV, so that’s all I have for the recap.

However, I do know what Spike did in terms of the name and concept.

Because of the bar’s long history in St. Louis, Spike decided to keep the same The Fireplace Bar name, though he did update the branding to make it much more modern.

He also slightly tweaked it, making the full name “The Fireplace Bar & Kitchen”, which matches the new s

This is no surprise to me as Spike has also kept the same name for the other bars that he’s rescued so far (The Airliner in East Alton IL and Harbor Lights in Sheboygan WI).

I guess Spike is the go-to guy for bars that have been around for a long-time and are keeping the same concept.

So – was the Fireplace Bar Bar Rescue episode a long-term success?

Keep reading my update to learn what happened next and if this long-time St. Louis bar is still open in 2025.

The Fireplace Bar Update - What Happened Next?

Now that I’ve recapped the episode, let’s talk about how the bar is doing after the Bar Rescue crew rolled out of St. Louis.

I’ll start by talking about the bar’s reaction to the episode.

Then, I’ll look at whether or not The Fireplace Bar is still open after the show.

Finally, I’ll share some real customer reviews from after the rescue, along with any other interesting information that I can find.

Let’s get into it…

Is The Fireplace Bar still open after Bar Rescue?

As of my most recent check in 2025, The Fireplace Bar is still open and serving customers in St. Louis Missouri.

What’s more, they seem to have really leaned into the Bar Rescue experience, heavily promoting their Bar Rescue status on their social media profiles and website.

For example, the bar’s Instagram page puts “As Seen on Bar Rescue” near the top of the profile:

The Fireplace Bar Instagram

The bar’s website also has a dedicated page promoting the bar’s appearance on Bar Rescue.

The bar also has a pretty good website, which isn’t something you see for a lot of bars that appear on the show.

Here’s a screenshot of The Fireplace Bar menu so that you can get an idea of the prices…

The food menu does indeed include some hotdogs – thanks Vic!

I’m not familiar with prices in St. Louis, but $12 for a sandwich doesn’t seem too bad.

A large pizza would cost $14 and the cocktails seem to range from $10-$15 each.

The bar is also active on social media, with active profiles on both Facebook and Instagram.

Here’s what the bar’s St. Louis location looks like in the most recent picture from Google Maps street view…

The picture hasn’t been updated since April 2022 so it still shows the old branding.

I’m mainly just including it so that you can explore the area around the bar.

The Fireplace Bar reviews after the rescue

Next, I want to look at some real customer reviews from after the bar was rescued.

I like doing this because it gives us some insights into how customers are feeling about the changes from the show.

Overall, the bar has a 4.2 star rating on 26+ Yelp reviews and a 4.5 star rating on 191+ Google reviews, both of which are actually pretty good for a bar that’s appeared on the show.

However, both of those numbers include reviews from both before and after the rescue.

As always, I try to exclusively focus on reviews that were written after the Bar Rescue changes.

I would say that these reviews seem to generally be positive, with some of the few negative reviews being things outside the bar’s control (e.g. the behavior of other patrons).

Final thoughts on the episode

Overall, The Fireplace Bar seems to be doing pretty well after the rescue.

However, this really isn’t surprising given that it’s already been around for 80+ years.

I was impressed with the quality of the bar’s website, as a lot of bars from the show don’t even have their own website.

The bar also has polished profiles on Facebook and Instagram and seems to be active on both.

All in all, I hope that this one is able to make it another 80+ years as it seems like a St. Louis institution.

That wraps up my The Fireplace Bar Rescue update.

  1. Spike was gentler this time except for the Lucy part. It works better for him.

In prior episodes, he was trying to be too much like Jon.

Vic Vegas disappointed me by not stating he wanted to elevate those hot dogs.
