Urban Pie Bar Rescue

Episode Recap

Urban Pie, later tweaked to Urban Pie: Bar & Pizzeria, was an Atlanta, Georgia (Kirkwood) bar that was featured on Season 10 of Bar Rescue.

Though the Urban Pie Bar Rescue episode aired in April 2026, the actual filming and visit from Bar Rescue took place around a year before that.

It was Season 10 Episode 8 and the episode name was “Crust Issues”.

In this Easter Sunday Bar Rescue visit, Jon Taffer and his crew are back in Atlanta, Georgia to rescue another bar.

More specifically, they’re in Kirkwood, a neighborhood on the East side of Atlanta.

Taffer and his experts are in town to rescue a bar named Urban Pie.

Urban Pie is more established than a lot of the other bars that have recently been featured on the show.

It’s been at its Georgia location for almost 20 years now, having been launched back in 2007.

As the name suggests, Urban Pie also serves pizza in addition to its bar.

It has a cool, colorful location, with lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

However, things obviously aren’t perfect at the restaurant/bar, which is why they reached out to Jon Taffer for help.

To recon the bar, Jon Taffer sent in “two of the biggest food influencers in the entire state” – Kristen Truitt (Atlanta Food Guy) and Angie Green.

Let me know in the comments if you think they’re actually two of the biggest influencers haha.

When the two arrive, they order some drinks – an Old Fashioned and a special “Respect Your Elders”.

The bartender then literally pours the Old Fashioned out of a can…which is just ridiculous.

I can’t imagine getting a canned cocktail at a bar.

The spies don’t like either drink, which isn’t surprising.

They then order some food – a margarita pizza and a calzone.

When watching the kitchen, the expert says that they’re buying frozen doughballs and pouring sauce out of a can…which doesn’t seem very “unique” to me.

If I’m buying a pizza, I want them to be making that stuff from scratch…but maybe that’s just me.

At least one of the chefs, Q, seems to understand how to prepare the dough properly.

Taffer also sees operational issues.

For example, one of the orders was made incorrectly and another got sent back.

Because I’m writing this the day before the episode airs on TV, that’s all of the information that I have for the episode recap so far.

However, I did do some research into the renovations from the show.

As far as I can tell, Jon Taffer decided not to rename Urban Pie as part of the renovations, likely because of the bar’s long history in the area.

He did update the signage and branding with a much more modern look, though.

He also added a tagline to Urban Pie, making it officially Urban Pie: Bar & Pizzeria.

So – was the Urban Pie rescue a success?

Keep reading my update to learn what happened next and if this Atlanta, GA bar is still open in 2026.

Urban Pie Update - What Happened Next?

Now that I’ve recapped the episode as much as possible, let’s talk about how Urban Pie is doing after Taffer and his crew left Atlanta.

I’ll start by talking about whether or not the bar is still open and using Taffer’s concept.

Then, I’ll get into some real customer reviews from after the bar’s rescue.

Along the way, I’ll also share any other interesting information that I’m able to turn up, such as some growing pains with changes to the pizza dough and menu.

Let’s get into it…

Is Urban Pie still open after Bar Rescue?

As of my most recent check, Urban Pie is still open and serving customers in Atlanta, GA.

They also seem to still be using the updated signage and branding from the show, even if the name itself didn’t change.

The bar is pretty active on social media, regularly posting about events and specials.

First off, the bar hosted a watch party for its episode premiere, which is always a good sign for how the bar felt about the rescue.

They also have lots of events around sports, which makes sense for a bar.

They also seem to have a pop trivia night, though they haven’t posted about it recently so I’m not sure whether or not it’s still active.

Here’s what the Urban Pie location looks like in the most recent picture from Google Maps street view.

It doesn’t show the new branding yet, so I’m mainly including it so that you can explore the area around the bar.

Growing pains after the Bar Rescue visit

Based on Urban Pie’s Facebook page, it seems like the bar had some growing pains after Taffer’s visit, with some regulars being upset by changes to the pizza dough and menu.

Shortly after the rescue, the bar posted this on Facebook about the dough:

Thank you for sticking with us this past week.

We know things have been a little unpredictable, and we truly appreciate your patience and support while we worked through it.

The good news?

Our regular dough is back.

The temporary dough didn’t meet our standards, and many of you let us know you missed the original.

We’re happy to say Lisa’s classic recipe is back where it belongs.

We’ll still offer a few alternative options, but our regular dough is here again.

Urban Pie dough change

Around a month after that, the bar also posted about bringing back a lot of the older menu items, due to customers wanting them.

However, they also kept many of the newer menu items.

These past few weeks have been a big transition for Urban Pie.

We’ve been learning a lot behind the scenes, and we know it hasn’t all been smooth.

Your feedback has been heard, and we’ve been working hard to make things better.

We’ve brought back the favorites you love, kept the new dishes that are becoming staples, and hired a wonderful new team who care deeply about creating a great experience for you.

Urban Pie menu change

Basically, it seems like they had some struggles trying to balance the changes from the show with keeping their existing customer base happy.

Urban Pie reviews after Bar Rescue

Next, let’s take a look at some real customer reviews of the bar from after Taffer’s rescue in May 2025.

As always, I try to exclusively look at reviews written after the rescue to get a feel for how people feel about the changes.

Overall, the bar has a 4.3 star rating on 570+ Google reviews, but just a 3.5 star rating on 239+ Yelp reviews.

However, both of those numbers include reviews written both before and after the rescue.

When only looking at more recent reviews, I would say they remain somewhat mixed.

I see lots of positive reviews, but also a decent number of one-star reviews mixed in.

Final thoughts on the episode

Overall, Urban Pie seems to still be doing ok after the rescue.

However, they did have some growing pains with the changes, having to switch back to their original pizza dough and bringing back a lot of the older menu items.

I’m not sure if that’s a good decision or a bad decision, we will have to wait and see.

That wraps up my Urban Pie Bar Rescue update.

  1. going back to crappy menu items and bad dough in a pizza place for drunk regulars will be the kiss of death for this place.. going back to what made this place a failure is as usual a mistake..oh well check back in a year. BR will attract customers for a while as usual.

    • Yeah I’m not sure about the decision to go back to the old dough. But I guess the regulars don’t like change.

At least it does seem like they kept some of the new Bar Rescue menu items, even if they also brought back a lot of old stuff.
