Episode Recap
Bar 8, later renamed to Legacy Bar and Venue, was a Houston, Texas bar that was featured on Season 9 of Bar Rescue.
Though the Legacy Bar Rescue episode aired in April 2025, the actual filming and visit from Bar Rescue took place before that in early 2024.
It was Season 9 Episode 30 and the episode name was “Honey, I Bought a Bar!”. The episode name was originally “Till Debt Do Us Part”, but I think the Bar Rescue team changed it after noticing that they already used that episode name for La Luz / Caribe back in Season 4.
Note – there was also another bar on the show that was renamed to “The Legacy” back in Season 6. If you want to see the update for that bar, check out my Game Time Sports / The Legacy update.
In this episode, Bar Rescue is back in Texas for the 20th time, which makes it one of the most popular states on the show.
More specifically, the crew is in Houston, which they’ve visited a few times before.
Thankfully, Jon Taffer is leading this rescue in person, which is a great thing as he’s been absent from the two previous episodes.
Jon is in Houston to rescue Bar 8, a supposedly upscale lounge that’s owned by a husband and wife duo.
In addition to acting as a bar, Bar 8 is also a rentable venue.
In fact, it seems to have closed every Saturday night for private events, which is a bit odd to me.
When Jon Taffer is recon’ing the bar, he asks the couple what they see when they look at the bar.
He asks if they see any organization or cleanliness, which they have to say “no” to.
He then asks if they see a “sh*thole”, with one of the owners calling it “a little poo-poo hole” haha.
He then goes through the bar to point out how the bar’s lack of organization and cleanliness doesn’t match with the fashionability of the clientele.
For example, there’s just a bunch of random stuff thrown on shelves behind the bar, which doesn’t look good.
He wants them to get mad when they see how disorganized the bar is, instead of just thinking of it as normal.
That’s it for the recap because I’m writing this the day before the episode airs on TV.
However, I do know what Jon Taffer decided to do with Bar 8.
As part of the rescue, Jon Taffer decided to change the bar’s name and concept.
He switched it from the original Bar 8 to a new name of Legacy Bar & Venue.
What do you think of the name change? Let me know in the comments section below!
So – was the Bar 8 Bar Rescue visit a long-term success?
Keep reading my update to learn what happened next and if the Legacy Bar is still open in 2025.
Legacy Bar and Venue Update - What Happened Next?
Now that I’ve recapped Jon Taffer’s visit to Bar 8, let’s talk about how the newly christened Legacy Bar is doing after Jon Taffer and his crew left Houston, TX.
I’ll start by looking at whether Legacy Bar is still open.
Then, I’ll look at some reviews of the bar from after Taffer’s visit and share any other interesting things that I can find.
But first, I always like checking to see if the bar hosted a watch party or not, as this usually is a good sign of whether or not the bar enjoyed Taffer’s visit.
I’m happy to report that Legacy Bar did host a watch party and heavily promote it:
Now, let’s get to the other stuff…
Is Legacy Bar still open after Bar Rescue?
As of my most recent check, Legacy Bar is still open and serving customers in Houston, Texas.
More importantly, they seem to have stuck with the new Legacy Bar & Venue concept that Taffer gave them and ditched the older Bar 8 concept.
While the bar doesn’t have a website and isn’t active on Facebook, they do seem to be very active on the bar’s Instagram page.
True to its “venue” tagline, the bar seems to have a good amount of events.
As you’d expect, they have lots of DJs and music events.
They also have standup comedy events that feature local Houston comedians.
For example, here’s an event that that they’re hosting on April 12:
Beyond that, they have some other unique stuff going on.
For example, they have dance classes/workshops pretty regularly.
I think having so many events going on is a good sign and hopefully that means Legacy Bar is doing well.
Here’s what the Legacy Bar location looks like in the most recent picture from Google Maps street view…
It’s from May 2024 so it already includes the new Legacy Bar signage.
Legacy Bar reviews after Bar Rescue
Now, let’s look at some real customer reviews of Legacy Bar from after the Jon Taffer visit.
Legacy Bar doesn’t seem to have an active Yelp page, so there’s no information there.
However, the bar does have over 469 reviews on Google.
Overall, the bar’s rating is 4.3 stars on those reviews, however that number includes reviews from both before and after the visit from Jon Taffer.
As always, I try to exclusively focus on reviews from after the Bar Rescue changes so that you can see how customers are reacting to the new bar experience.
Overall, I would say that the recent reviews for the bar seem to be generally positive, with tons of 5 star reviews for the venue.
However, most of those reviews don’t include any text, so it’s hard to get a good feeling for the experience at the bar.
Final thoughts on the episode
Overall, it was great to have Jon Taffer back in person doing the rescue.
So far, Legacy Bar seems to have really embraced the concept that he put in.
With Taffer’s changes in place, I hope that it can achieve long-term success.
That wraps up my Legacy Bar Rescue update.

They needed to bring in Hookah John from the Omaha episode, lol.
Not sure I want a drink with activated charcoal. The owner didn’t really look like she liked it.
This is in south Houston where incomes are lower. I don’t think typical patrons can afford premium spirits.
Place reminds me of the southeast Florida bars and VFW’s.
