Trobiano's Kitchen Nightmares Update

Episode Recap

Trobiano’s was a Great Neck, New York restaurant featured on Season 2 of Kitchen Nightmares.

Though the Trobiano’s Kitchen Nightmares episode originally aired in September, 2008, the actual filming and visit from Gordon Ramsay happened much earlier in February 2008.

It was Kitchen Nightmares Season 2 Episode 3.

In this episode, Gordon Ramsay heads to Trobiano’s restaurant in New York.

Trobiano’s is located in Great Neck on the north shore of Long Island.

Anthony Trobiano on Kitchen Nightmares

The owner is Anthony Trobiano – can you see where the name came from?

His girlfriend Tiffany works at Trobiano’s, and their relationship is feeling the stress.

Tiffany’s parents are also co-owners at Trobiano’s, to add even more stress to the mix.

Anthony had only opened Trobiano’s restaurant around three years before Gordon’s visit, but it’s already in danger of closing which is why he asked for the Kitchen Nightmares Trobiano’s visit to happen.

Things are serious…

They will lose their life savings if the restaurant fails.

Tiffany Trobiano on Kitchen Nightmares

Anthony was only 25 when he opened the restaurant.

He has had no previous restaurant experience.

As you can probably guess, Anthony is overconfident and quickly running into the tough reality of the restaurant industry.

When Gordon Ramsay arrives, he doesn’t like that the restaurant offers early bird specials for $14.95.

Gordon pokes fun at the older customers who come in for the early bird specials.

Gordon orders the eggplant tower, chicken wrapped shrimp, and the spaghetti Bolognese with salmon.

The eggplant tower comes out cold and tasteless.

The chicken-wrapped shrimp was bland and tough.

Anthony is not happy about Gordon sending back his cooking.

As is often the case, Anthony can’t believe that Gordon Ramsay doesn’t like the food at Trobiano’s.

Once he tastes the food, Gordon Ramsay decides to go back and dig into the kitchen.

Gordon begins cleaning the kitchen and finds slimy surfaces and dirty dishes lying around.

Anthony yells at Gordon that he is not responsible for the cleaning; the staff is.

I guess that’s kind of true…but you’re the one responsible for hiring those staff and implementing the processes!

Gordon Ramsay at Trobiano's

Gordon wants Anthony to take accountability for his actions as the owner of the restaurant.

Gordon gives up on Anthony and leaves for the night, frustrated.

Anthony tries to talk to Gordon after he calms down.

Gordon tells Anthony he should be more humble.

Gordon tells Anthony to return to the kitchen to clean.

The next day Gordon decides to take Anthony Trobiano, Tiffany, and their family on an adventure.

He takes them to milk cows at a local farm.

They’re going to make fresh mozzarella to use at the restaurant.

Everyone, including Anthony, relaxes and has a good time.

Upon returning from the farm, Gordon adds dishes with fresh mozzarella.

During the dinner service, food keeps getting sent back to the kitchen, but Anthony is not testing his food to see the problems.

Anthony becomes overwhelmed, and a pan starts burning.

The fire alarm is set off—the evening is not a success.

The next day is relaunch day.

The Trobiano’s restaurant has had a makeover to implement the new menu and concept from Gordon Ramsay.

Gordon invites Barbara Fairchild from the prestigious cooking magazine Bon Appetite for dinner at Trobiano’s.

The servers keep scribbling their orders, and Anthony is having a hard time reading them.

Despite some hiccups, Barbara Fairchild was very impressed and loved her meal.

What’s more, only one dish was sent back for being too cold throughout the night.

Anthony and Tiffany had told Gordon that they can’t get married because of how busy they are with the restaurant.

But that changes thanks to Gordon’s visit and Anthony proposes to Tiffany on relaunch night with a diamond engagement ring.

Trobiano's wedding on Kitchen Nightmares

Gordon then surprises the happy couple with a wedding ceremony.

The episode has a happy ending, with the family visibly more relaxed than they were at the start of the episode.

So was the Trobiano’s Kitchen Nightmares episode a long-term success? Keep reading to learn what happened next and if it’s still open in 2024.

Trobiano's Update - What Happened Next?

Now that we’ve recapped what happened on the Trobiano’s Kitchen Nightmares episode, let’s talk about what happened to the restaurant after Gordon Ramsay and his crew left Great Neck, New York.

Unfortunately, there’s not a lot to update her because – spoiler alert – the restaurant didn’t stay open for very long.

Is Trobiano’s still open after Kitchen Nightmares?

Trobiano’s closed in October 2008, just one month after the Kitchen Nightmares episode aired.

Overall, it was around eight months after the actual visit from Gordon Ramsay.

At the time that it closed, I wasn’t able to find any Trobiano’s reviews from after Gordon Ramsay’s visit, so I’m not really sure how Gordon’s changes were received.

Since the restaurant closed, the old Trobiano’s location in Great Neck, NY has been home to a number of different restaurants including Bijan and La Stella restaurant, though all of them seem to have closed so far.

Now, it seems like that whole block has been demolished and is being rebuilt as condos.

Here’s a Google Maps street view embed of the old Trobiano’s New York location that shows the building under construction:

It seems like the entire complex will have around 40 units, including shops and restaurants.

If you want to see some renderings, you can check out the Compass page here.

If you want to live at the old Trobiano’s Long Island New York location, it seems like a two bedroom two bathroom condo will cost you around $1,270,600.

So they ain’t cheap!

Why did Trobiano’s restaurant close?

Trobiano’s restaurant closed because the restaurant was seized by New York state because of unpaid back taxes.

As such, it actually wasn’t the food that made Trobiano’s close in the end.

A fan said that they drove by the restaurant and saw a sign on the windows saying that Trobiano’s had been seized for unpaid taxes.

You can see the evidence I’m using on this 2008 Chowhound post.

However, I can’t find any other news articles about it.

What happened to Anthony Trobiano? Where is he now?

First off, Anthony Trobiano is not dead. I’m not sure why some people think that, but he’s still very much alive as far as I can tell.

After Trobiano’s closed, Anthony worked as a chef at Speranza Food Studio for a time.

However, that business closed in 2011.

After that, he also worked as an executive chef for a time at a restaurant called Cirella’s in Melville, New York.

Here’s a 2016 article from Long Islander news that shows Anthony Trobiano working as the Executive Chef at Cirella’s.

However, since that job he seems to have moved outside the restaurant industry and he’s now working in sales, according to Anthony Trobiano’s LinkedIn page.

He’s had a number of different sales jobs since 2018 and has worked himself up to VP of sales at his current company.

Congrats to Anthony!

Are Anthony Trobiano and Tiffany still married?

Anthony Trobiano and Tiffany Trobiano seem to still be married and have children together.

I’m glad to see that their relationship worked out, even if Trobiano’s restaurant didn’t.

I don’t like digging too deeply into people’s personal lives, though, so I won’t go beyond that.

Final thoughts on Trobiano’s restaurant

Unfortunately, I know that my Trobiano’s Kitchen Nightmares update isn’t very satisfying because the restaurant closed just a month after the episode aired on TV.

Trobiano’s closed because of tax issues.

Since the restaurant closed, a few other restaurants have occupied that location.

However, the old Trobiano’s Great Neck NY location has now been demolished and is being rebuilt as condos, as far as I can tell.

Anthony Trobiano is not dead. He had a few different jobs working as a chef, with his most recent Executive Chef job being around ~2016.

Since then, Anthony has transitioned into the sales industry.

Anthony and Tiffany Trobiano are still married as far as I can tell.

  1. Anthony wore is arrogance like a badge of honor. I really felt sad for his in-laws because of their huge financial investment in him.

    • He would walk into work with an extra small “Superman Logo” shirt, like a child.

He couldn’t execute a lunch service on Fire Island (burgers, chicken sandwiches).

He had someone buy his restaurant for him and another buy his wedding ring.

A totally joke. Nothing to be arrogant about

      • His inlaws were his bank, they’re the ones who got screwed, I hope they will be ok, that was a huge investment on their part, no way I would invest in a business run by an ARROGANT fool who thought his kitchen staff should be the ones who are responsible for keeping the kitchen spotless

    • Same here. I even wondered what their daughter saw in him, as he came across as a conman who bamboozled her parents.

I’m sure they would have lost everything due to his arrogance and incompetence, so l wonder what their relationship is like today with their daughter and arrogant PoS Son-in-Law?

  2. Felt a lot of pain for the in-laws, not so much for Tiffany who is oblivious to Tony’s arrogance and stubbornness. Now the in-laws lose everything due to unpaid taxes!?!?!
Another Anthony blunder. If I were them I’d never allow my daughter to marry someone like that, she’s too immature to make life decisions. Now, apparently 4 kids later, 4 jobs later for him – it’s too much. No mention of what happened to the poor in-laws.

    • Tiffany’s mother passed away about 5 months ago. Nothing recent with or about Anthony in it.

I am from this area and for girls, getting married and having kids is the only thing that they are told matters.

One thing I will say is most women have the sense to find a man who can support them; not one who needs her parents to finance him.

      • That’s exactly what l thought and the fact that all she wanted to do was marry that PoS Conman, probably made it easier for him to rip off the parents.

  3. I feel bad for the restaurant’s original owners and giving him that restaurant and all that trust. What were they thinking? Feel sorry for that family. They seemed like good people. Taken in by a guy who probably watched too much self-help stuff and thought he could just wing it as a chef.

  4. Gordon should have changed the restaurant’s name to McDonalds. That usually works. Especially because McDonalds constitutes fine dining on Long Island. PS the Mets still suck.

  5. Trobiano’s espisode was interesting. Lots of lessons to be learned. The parents took the brunt of the fall. I feel sorry for them, too much blind trust and not enough knowledge of a very difficult highly competitive industry. Others hopefully will be more careful. Gordon hopefully will check debt more carefully. It sounds like the business may have been doomed to fail from back taxes.

  6. This is a bit risque, but there’s a reason why the restaurant failed and Tiffany experienced big changes. The problems were caused by what seemed to be a good idea: Gordon took Anthony and Tiffany to the farm where they milked cows to produce fresh mozzarella. It was such a success that Anthony wanted to repeat the idea. But, he said to himself, “I can’t bring a cow into a restaurant, where am I going to get fresh milk?” Then he looked at Tiffany. That’s why they have four children. PS — just kidding!

  7. I watched this show and was very disappointed in Anthony. What an attitude. We pay them to clean. Seriously and the in laws sponsored his fantasy. Who actually pays for all the modifications to the restaurant. He never deserved Ramsey’s help. Where is he now?

  8. Bad news that Anthony is alive. Sad that his girlfriend had 4 kids with him. Hopefully he stopped depending on his Father in Law to pay his bills. I feel sorry for his girlfriend’s parents that they trusted that POS and lost so much money. Their lives were ruined by him, and now I read that the Mother in Law passed away. I wonder if she ever got to go on any of the trips that they had planned with their retirement funds that Anthony sucked out of their bank accounts and wasted?? Did he ever pay them back? Probably not.

  9. According to Linkedn, Trobiano has been in sales since at least 2018. He works for Herbl, which is: “HERBL is the leading cannabis supply chain solutions company in the largest cannabis markets in the U.S. and actively delivers to 1000+ licensed retailers in CA. Founded in 2016, HERBL brings the top cannabis retailers and best-selling brands together through innovative technology, unparalleled service, a dedicated sales team, and high-security, state-of-the-art facilities and fleet.”

There is a picture of Trobiano, and he still looks like a Grade A jerko. https://www.linkedin.com/in/anthony-trobiano-7972ab74
