Off Street Cafe was an Cerritos, California restaurant featured on Season 2 of Restaurant Impossible.
Though the Off Street Cafe Restaurant Impossible episode aired in September 2011, the actual filming and visit from Robert Irvine took place before that.
It was Season 2 Episode 9.
Off Street Cafe is located in Cerritos, CA.
If you’re not familiar with California geography, Cerritos is a city in Los Angeles County, though it’s nearer to Anaheim than downtown LA. It’s one of the southeast gateway cities to Los Angeles.
Basically, while you might not have heard of Cerritos itself, it’s in one of the biggest metropolitan areas of the USA, so there are plenty of people it can reach.
Robin and her ex-mother-in-law Rose to own the restaurant, and the duo struggles to run it. Obviously – the Off Street Cafe Restaurant Impossible episode probably wouldn’t exist if the duo were doing great.
The restaurant was purchased by Rose, who asked her then-daughter-in-law Robin to invest in it with her, but Robin would then divorce Rose’s son. Awkward!
The restaurant was highly successful at first, and the owners paid off their loan immediately.
Unfortunately, Rose was injured, and Robin had to manage Off Street Cafe by herself.
Robin was also a mother to two young children at the same time.
Robert Irvine arrives and doesn’t like how their interior is decorated with Christmas lights.
Rose and Robin sit down with Robert, and Rose tells him she has an injury that requires frequent operations.
These procedures leave her unable to work for months at a time. Obviously, that’s a really tough situation and I feel for her.
To sample the service, Robert orders a shrimp meal.
He watches as a customer raises their hand for their check, but the server ignores him. Another server is rude to a customer. It definitely seems like service is an issue at Off Street Cafe.
Robin is not motivated, and Robert Irvine can see that she does not want to manage.
Robert tells Robin and the staff they sound like they have given up on each other.
The food that is served is burnt and covered in sauce.
The portion sizes are too large, and many customers take their food home, so the restaurant loses money.
Alex works in the kitchen and tells Robert that a lot of money is wasted on inventory for the expansive menu.
Taniya arrives from the design team, and Robert tells her what he wants to be changed in Off Street Cafe.
Robert will create a new menu with a mix of customer favorites and new items.
Fish and chips and fish tacos are taught to the staff.
Taniya meets with Robert, who tells him they are behind by hours because of delays.
The following day, Robert Irvine returned, and Taniya’s crew worked all night.
Robin meets with Robert, and he tells her there are many reviews online about rude service.
In response, Robert wants Robin to step up as a manager.
While all of that is happening, Taniya and the design team are making significant progress on the renovations.
Robert tests the servers of their service and has one of the writers from the poor online review as a customer.
The service has improved, and the customer agrees to return for the relaunch.
The renovations are shown to Robin and Rose, and they are pleased.
The new fish dishes have the customers feeling full and content.

Now that we’ve recapped the Off Street Cafe Restaurant Impossible episode, let’s talk about what happened to the restaurant after Robert Irvine and his crew left Cerritos, CA.
First off, Robin and Rose kept most of Robert Irvine’s changes, which automatically puts them in a better position than many other restaurants.
It seems like Robert Irvine really does know what he’s talking about because those changes have worked out great.
In 2019, Robert Irvine revisited the restaurant, around eight years after the original Off Street Cafe Restaurant Impossible episode aired on TV.
He had a good experience, but he also helped Robin continue to grow her knowledge and management skills.
Is Off Street Cafe from Restaurant Impossible still open?
As of 2022, Off Street Cafe is still open and serving customers in Cerritos, CA.
What’s more, reviews for the restaurant are excellent.
It has a 4.5 star rating on Yelp on over 3,000 reviews, which is incredible.
It also has a 4.5 star rating on Google Reviews on over 1,500 reviews.
Again, that’s very good. With reviews that good, it’s no surprise that Off Street Cafe is still open after the Restaurant Impossible episode.

We started watching Robert and Restaurant Impossible last Fall.
It’s amazing how much he cares and provides the owners a solid foundation to move the restaurant out of the muck and mire and into new life and future.
After watching an episode, my wife and I pause, and check the current status of the restaurant feature in hoping for a good report.
In the Off Street Cafe Restaurant case, we were very excited they’re still in business and survived covid.
