Rix Ranch bar Rescue

Episode Recap

Club 21, later renamed to Rix Ranch, was a Goodells, Michigan bar that was featured on Season 9 of Bar Rescue.

Though the Rix Ranch Bar Rescue episode aired in June 2025, the actual filming and visit from Bar Rescue took place before that in May 2024.

It was Season 9 Episode 39 and the episode name was “Third Time’s the Charm”.

In this episode, Bar Rescue is back in Michigan, which they’ve visited quite a few times in this set of Season 9 episodes.

It also marks the seventh time overall that Bar Rescue has been in Michigan.

More specifically, they’re in Goodells Michigan, a rural area to the northeast of Detroit near Lake Huron.

Unfortunately, Jon Taffer will not be leading the rescue.

Instead, Dustin Drai will be handling things.

If you’re not familiar with Dustin, he’s a long-time expert on the show who is probably best known for his family’s Las Vegas nightclubs.

Dustin is in Goodells to rescue Club 21.

Club 21 is a well-established bar that’s changed ownership a few times.

At the time of Dustin’s visit, it’s owned by a guy named Dave Rix.

Club 21 is not Dave’s first bar.

In fact, he’s owned two other bars before Club 21.

However, both of those bars closed down due to mismanagement, which is why the episode name is Third Time’s the Charm.

One of these bars was named Rix’s Rooftop, which closed back in 2019.

Rix Rooftop Bar closed

Obviously, that’s not a great track record.

But with Dustin’s help, hopefully Dave can turn things around and make Club 21 a success.

As always, I’m writing this recap a day before the episode airs on TV.

Unfortunately, Bar Rescue did not post a preview for this episode so I can’t provide any additional information yet.

However, I do know the new concept that Dustin decided to put in.

He changed the bar’s name from Club 21 to Rix Ranch.

Note – the bar’s named is spelled “Rix Ranch” and not “Rick’s Ranch”.

In addition to the new name and signage, it also seems like Bar Rescue re-did the exterior of the bar to match the new ranch concept.

Obviously, the new name is based on the last name of the Club 21 owner, Dave Rix.

It also kind of fits with the same naming convention as one of Dave’s old bars.

You have Rix Ranch (Club 21 rename) and Rix’s Rooftop (a bar that closed back in 2019).

So – was the Club 21 Bar Rescue visit a long-term success?

Keep reading my update to learn what happened next and if this Goodells, Michigan bar is still open in 2025.

Rix Ranch Update - What Happened Next?

Now that I’ve recapped Dustin’s visit to Club 21 as much as possible, let’s talk about how the bar is doing after Dustin and the Bar Rescue crew left Goodells, Michigan.

I’ll start by talking about whether Rix Ranch is still open and using the concept from the show.

Then, I’ll look at some real customer reviews for the bar from after Dustin’s visit and share any other interesting details that I can find.

Let’s get into it…

Is Rix Ranch still open after Bar Rescue?

As of my most recent check, Rix Ranch is still open and serving customers in Goodells, Michigan.

What’s more, Dave seems to have kept the Rix Ranch name and concept from Dustin, though he still uses Club 21 on some of the social media profiles.

The bar’s Facebook page is still named Club 21 for some reason, but all of the images and details on that page still reflect the Rix Ranch concept.

The Google Business profile listing includes both names – “Rix Ranch-Club 21” – perhaps to avoid confusing regulars who don’t know about the name change.

The bar also has an official website that exclusively use’s the Rix Ranch Bar and Grill name.

Here’s a screenshot of part of the menu to give you an idea of the prices:

The menu seems pretty small, but that’s all of the food they have listed on the website.

I think they serve a larger menu if you actually go to the restaurant.

For example, here’s a screenshot of the menu that I found on the bar’s Facebook page:

Beyond that, the bar regularly posts about specials on its Facebook page, but it doesn’t seem to have a ton of events (at least not events that I see on Facebook).

Here’s what the Rix Ranch location looks like in the most recent picture from Google Maps street view.

Google most recently updated the picture in November 2024, so it already shows the new Rix Ranch signage.

Rix Ranch reviews after Bar Rescue

Next, let’s take a look at some real customer reviews to get an idea of how the bar is doing after the Bar Rescue visit.

Overall, the bar has a 4.1 star rating on 193+ Google reviews and a 3.6 star rating on 13+ Yelp reviews.

However, both of those numbers include reviews from both before and after Dustin’s visit.

As always, I try to exclusively focus on reviews that were written after the bar was rescued.

For reference, the actual rescue happened back in May 2024, even though the episode didn’t air until June 2025.

Looking at the recent reviews, I would say that they seem to generally be more positive than the older reviews.

They’re not perfect, but most of them are five star reviews with just a few negative reviews mixed in.

Final thoughts on the episode

Overall, Dave doesn’t seem to have a great track record when it comes to running bars.

However, he has kept the new Rix Ranch concept and recent reviews for the bar do seem to generally be positive, so maybe the third time really is the charm.

I wish him the best and I hope that he’s able to turn Rix Ranch into a long-term success.

That wraps up my Rix Ranch Bar Rescue update.
