Los Toros Mexican Restaurant Update - 24 Hours to Hell and Back

Episode Recap

Los Toros Mexican Restaurant was a Chatsworth, Los Angeles, California restaurant featured on Season 2 of Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back.

Though the Los Toros Mexican Restaurant 24 Hours to Hell and Back episode aired in February 2019, the actual filming and visit from Gordon Ramsay took place all the way back in November 2018. It was Season 2 Episode 8.

Located in Chatsworth / Los Angeles, California , Los Toros Mexican Restaurant owned and managed as a family business.

However, the restaurant is now in serious debt, which is why Gordon Ramsay has been called in.

The owner, Nick Sr’s father, bought the restaurant in 1967.

For a long time, it was the only Mexican restaurant in the Chatsworth area of Los Angeles, but that’s changed and the competition is putting some serious strain on business.

Nick Sr. wants to leave the restaurant to his children. His wife Lucia is the general manager. The family is under strain.

Gordon arrives in disguise as a grandpa with a fake family. Gordon is not a fan of the bright décor in the restaurant.

The menu is too extensive and filled with advertisements.

The phony family orders tacos, tamales, and enchiladas. The disguise doesn’t fool Nick’s family. I mean, Gordon Ramsay as a grandpa? C’mon now!

Unfortunately, even recognition couldn’t save the experience at Los Toros Mexican Restaurant.

The food is appalling, and Gordon removes his mask and returns to the restaurant.

He then takes the staff and the customers to the Hell on Wheels Truck to show them hidden footage from the restaurant.

The footage shows unsafe food temperatures, moldy food, and a clip of Maribel, Nick Sr’s daughter, talking of an incident that sent customers to the hospital. Not good!

Nick Sr defends his restaurant and argues with Gordon. He also denies the food poisoning incident.

He may be in too much denial for Gordon to fix the restaurant. Maribel and Nick Jr do not feel like they are ready to take over the restaurant.

When Gordon inspects the kitchen, he finds expired foods, rotten produce, and dirty appliances. The food poisoning story makes a little more sense when you see what’s happening behind the scenes.

Nick Sr tries to tell Gordon that everything had gone bad that day, but Gordon knows better.

Gordon and Nick Sr meet, and Nick admits he lost control of the restaurant.

Gordon then reveals the new menu to Nick Sr.

Nick Jr and Maribel are trained to cook and plate the meals. The children promise to fight for the restaurant after seeing an interview with their dad.

The line cooks have never cut an onion before and have always used a chopping tool. Can you believe that? Line cooks who can’t cut an onion?!?!

Gordon has the cooks make one of every item on the menu. The food comes out cold and undercooked.

During the relaunch, the customers love the new interior. There are also food critics in the crowd.

The kitchen begins to experience issues with timing.

Gordon’s fake family from earlier return loves the new food and decor.

They say they will come back to dine there. Gordon says the relaunch was a success.

  1. After not visiting their restaurant for over 15 years (food was horrible) we took a chance and finally went when they enclosed the patio during the pandemic. The food and service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable. My only wish is they take reservations; they never answer their phone and the voicemail needs fixing. Think Gordon Ramsay can fix that?😅

    • Thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds like Gordon needs to come back and tell them to answer the dang phone.

  2. Was just there this weekend and got food poisoning! My husband got sick in the past when the chicken tasted funny. We have been going to this restaurant for years since it’s close by and we’re creatures of habits, and they have gone back to their old ways. Ramsey def needs to go back and shut the place down!

  3. I’m surprised Los Toros is still operating. Figured they go back to the old negative ways and eventually shut down like most of them.
