615 District Bar Rescue

Episode Recap

615 District, later renamed to The Southern Still, was a Murfreesboro, Tennessee bar that was featured on Season 10 of Bar Rescue.

Though the Southern Still Bar Rescue episode aired in March 2026, the actual filming and visit from Bar Rescue took place before that in June 2025.

It was Season 10 Episode 9 and the episode name was “615 Reasons to Fail”.

In this episode, Jon Taffer and the Bar Rescue crew are back in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

If you’re a fan of the show, you might remember that Taffer has already rescued two bars in Murfreesboro way back in Season 3 – Brew U / Fairways (the infamous mushroom episode) and MT Bottle / Bottles and Cans.

Now, he’s back in Murfreesboro for the third time (and the tenth time in Tennessee overall).

This time, he’s rescuing a bar named 615 District, which is where the 615 Reasons to Fail episode name comes from.

The bar is located in an old Shoney’s building, which is kind of funny.

I read some Facebook comments from locals in Murfreesboro and they just kept calling 615 District a Shoney’s location haha.

Here’s a link to the Yelp page for the old Shoney’s – it only had 2 stars on Yelp, which is pretty horrible.

615 District replaced the old Shoney’s location in 2021, so it’s been around for about four years at the time of Taffer’s rescue.

To help with the rescue, Jon Taffer has Vic Vegas at his side, so we might be getting some elevated hotdogs on the new 615 District menu.

To recon the bar, Jon Taffer sends in two spies.

They order a margarita and a Manhattan, which are both pretty standard drinks (so it should be easy for the bar to make them).

Despite that, the bartender struggles to make the drinks.

She makes them one at a time, has to search for the ingredients, and just generally takes a long time.

Despite taking a long time, the spy says that the margarita tastes a bit like dishwater…which obviously isn’t a great sign.

The Manhattan is even worse because it doesn’t exist – the bartender can’t find any vermouth so the spy has to change his drink to a Bahama Mama.

After the disappointing drinks, the spies turn their attention to ordering some food.

They try to order the meatloaf, but the bar is out of it.

Then, the spy orders the lobster tail.

As Taffer points out, it’s pretty crazy to order lobster at a bar like this.

Personally, I would never do it, so I respect the spy’s bravery.

They also order the hamburger steak with spaghetti and collard greens.615 District gross meat on Bar Rescue

The chef throws some disgusting two-tone meat on the grill, which is super gross.

Everything else comes from bags or warmers, which doesn’t add to the quality.

Surprisingly, Taffer does not come in to SHUT IT DOWN.

He actually lets them eat the gross food, which I think he should’ve stopped (that two-tone beef was super gross).

Personally, I would not eat there, at least as it was presented on the show.

As always, I’m writing this update the day before the episode airs on TV, so that’s all I have for the recap.

However, my research did allow me to determine the new name and concept that Jon Taffer put in.

As part of the bar’s renovations, Jon Taffer decided to change the name from 615 District to The Southern Still: Tennessee Bar & Grill.

What do you think about the name change?

Personally, I think it’s fine, but a bit generic.

If you agree or disagree, let me know in the comment section below.

So – was the 615 District Bar Rescue visit a long-term success?

Keep reading my update to learn what happened next and if this Murfreesboro, TN bar is still open in 2026 and beyond.

Southern Still Update - What Happened Next?

Now that I’ve recapped the episode as much as possible, let’s talk about how the newly christened Southern Still bar is doing after Jon Taffer and his crew left Murfreesboro.

I’ll start by talking about whether or not the bar is still open and using the new concept from Bar Rescue.

Then, I’ll take a look at some real customer reviews that were left after the rescue.

Along the way, I’ll share any other interesting details that I’m able to turn up.

Let’s get into it…

Is Southern Still open after Bar Rescue?

As of my most recent check, Southern Still is still open and serving customers in Murfreesboro.

The bar seems to have kept the new The Southern Still name and concept from Jon Taffer, though it doesn’t have much of an online presence.

The bar does have social media profiles, but it doesn’t seem to really post much.

It also maintains a website for both the new concept and the old concept.

So while it’s hard to know what’s going on from the bar’s own profiles, I do see recent customer reviews still referring to it as Southern Still.

Here’s a screenshot of the Southern Still menu from Bar Rescue to give you an idea of what’s on offer and the prices – I’m guessing they’ve probably expanded the menu since the show.

And then here’s what the Southern Still location looks like in the most recent picture from Google Maps street view.

Google updated the picture in 2026, so you can see the Southern Still branding.

It really does look like a Shoney’s still, though…

I found a picture of the old Shoney’s building for comparison haha:

Southern Still reviews after Bar Rescue

Next, let’s take a look at some real customer reviews that were written after the bar was rescued by the show.

As always, I try to exclusively focus on reviews that were written after the show’s June 2025 visit, so we can get a feel for how customers feel about the changes.

Overall, the bar has just a 3.7 star rating on 444+ Google reviews, but that number includes reviews from back when it was 615 District.

When only looking at more recent reviews for Southern Still, I would say that they seem to be a little bit more positive than before.

I see a lot of 5 star reviews, with people praising the service and food.

Some of the negative reviews seem to be about ordering delivery food from the restaurant, so maybe that’s an area where Southern Still needs to improve.

Final thoughts on the episode

So far, Southern Still seems to be doing ok.

While they don’t have much of an online presence, the bar is still continuing to use the Southern Still concept as far as I can tell.

Reviews from after the rescue also seem to be more positive than those from before, which is always a good sign.

If anything changes in the future, I will update this post.

That wraps up my Southern Still Bar Rescue update.

If you want to see the other two Murfreesboro Bar Rescue episodes, you can also read my updates for Brew U / Fairways and MT Bottle / Bottles and Cans.

As I mentioned earlier, both of those rescues were from Season 3.

As always – thank you for reading!
